As an internationally recognized, award-winning storyteller, research scientist, author, and industry thought leader, I am dedicated to advocating how media affects young people; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility; and parenting in today’s digital age. I am an out of the box leader who believes in motivating industry with the carrot not the stick. My expertise is storytelling with research. Studies I have led have gone viral and global three times, being featured in numerous media outlets in over 32 countries, including New York Times, Forbes, NBC News, NPR, and more. I have also been honored to speak for a myriad of audiences, including the White House, Harvard Business School, and the American Psychological Association. Before receiving my Ph.D. in developmental psychology from UCLA, I was a senior media executive for MGM and Sony. I founded The Center for Scholars & Storytellers (CSS), a research organization at UCLA that brings together social scientists and content creators to support authentic and inclusive stories for children and adolescents. CSS works across many sectors such as entertainment (Disney, Warner Brothers), technology (YouTube, Twitch), and public health (LACOE). Additionally, I teach Digital Media and Human Development at UCLA and authored the research-based parenting book Media Moms and Digital Dads: A Fact-Not-Fear Approach to Parenting in the Digital Age.I am member of the YouTube Kids and Family Council, the NAACP entertainment council, and a faculty member of the American Academy of Pediatrics ECHO program (where we speak to pediatricians across the US about social media). You can read my latest articles and research by following my Psychology Today column: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/contributors/yalda-t-uhls-phd.
