Beyond First Thoughts Llc.

I have been in the thick of improving equity locally in organizations and people I have served for many years. I have learned so much in PRACTICE. That micro level of work as big as it feels, needs to be connected to the macro level work for equity in our state, nation, and world. We need to move beyond our first thoughts of what we believe equity work looks like. We can boldly highlight active and different work within our local communities because it IS happening by the people in it. Perspectives and lived experiences of those doing the work outside the limelight and in the quiet of our own communities already exists, awe inspiring and aspirational transformational change. For what it really takes to do this collective work for equity is all of us, all the time, always! Only when we center those we are serving and take responsibility for creating humanizing conditions to support affective and connected work can we say we are making meaningful and transformational change. By asking the right questions, and reflecting that deep listening to connected actions for change, can we move beyond addressing these complex barriers in equity work toward healing, building community, and transformational change. When equity work has deep roots of commitment to one another in our community, our practice, outcomes, and way of being will be hard to uproot even when policies and leadership change.
