Greater Salt Lake City Area

Responsible for planning, researching, writing/editing, managing, and implementing provider and patient education materials and projects to support Intermountain's Clinical Programs, Clinical Services, and other system-wide goals and initiatives. Serve as participant, consultant, and/or leader to designated clinical teams to produce and promote use of evidence-based, educationally excellent products. Help establish and promote system-wide quality standards for provider and patient education.

Maintained oversight of 12 federal grant program areas (including applications, reports, and budgets) to augment epidemiology and laboratory capacity in the state and to assess vaccine efficacy. Co-authored 7 national conference abstracts and 3 journal articles accepted for publication. Published hundreds of reports for stakeholders.

Served as a liaison between the Utah Department of Health, Utah's 13 local health departments, Collaborative Software Initiative, and the Utah Department of Technology Services to develop and implement the nation's first open-source informatics product to support disease tracking and management needs. Presented product at several national conferences and marketed software application to potential customers in several states and countries. Oversaw integration of the product with business intelligence application. Managed grant funding for the project and developed contracts for additional development initiatives. Improved data sharing among local, tribal, and state health agencies, which led to enhanced capacity for outbreak detection and management and resulted in the timelier implementation of disease interventions. Co-authored 4 national conference abstracts.

Directed the state’s Regional Epidemiologist Team and the outbreak and environmental health investigation activities they conducted for 10 Utah local health departments. Additionally, provided leadership and direction for the Surveillance Program, a team that specialized in disease aberration detection and situational awareness. Managed 2 federal grants and engaged partners from multiple agencies (including laboratories) in developing and managing budgets and contracts, determining objectives, and allocating responsibility for 9 program areas. Coordinated a joint task force of nearly 80 local and state public health leaders who convened monthly to address continuous improvement in public health practice. Member of State Emergency Response Team and Utah’s FBI Counter-Bioterrorism Working Group.

Performed data analysis and conducted disease and outbreak detection, investigation, and control activities. Coordinated 2 federal grants. Designed and implemented new programs to improve communication and collaboration with community partners. Collaboratively developed Utah’s Health Alert Network. Collaborated with FBI and law enforcement leaders to design and instruct Utah’s first "Forensic Epidemiology" course for hundreds of law enforcement, emergency medical services, and health officials. Co-founded Utah’s Alliance Working for Antibiotic Resistance Education ("Utah AWARE").
