Doug (703-934-1122; dsand@mccandlaw.com) maintains a multi-faceted FAMILY LAW and COMMERCIAL/RETAIL REAL ESTATE law practice. In response to the pandemic, he now uses video technology to facilitate meetings with clients and others. In Doug's family law practice he counsels and represents people who need legal assistance with property and separation agreements, divorces, child custody and visitation, equitable distribution, and support, and enjoys offering clients a choice of the collaborative law process to procure a far less adversarial divorce. On a happier note, he also enjoys the opportunity to negotiate and finalize pre-nuptial agreements. In his business and real estate practice, Doug represents people who are owners or operators of businesses, in buying, selling, financing, leasing, and managing commercial and retail real estate. “Virginia Business” magazine has named Doug annually as one of its “Legal Elite,” the best attorneys in Virginia, in Family Law. Doug for several years has been named a "Superlawyer" for the Washington, D.C. and Virginia areas, by that magazine. He also has earned a top, "av," Preeminent rating in the Martindale-Hubbell attorneys' directory, and now has been named by American Registry as one of “Americas Most Honored Lawyers - Top 1% 2022.”Doug has been an active volunteer in his community. He has served since 1991 as volunteer legal counsel to ArtsFairfax (formerly known as the Arts Council of Fairfax County, Inc.). He also is or has been a member of the Boards of Directors of his temple and of his family's swim and tennis club, the Site Selection Committee for Habitat for Humanity’s northern Virginia chapter, Legal Services of Northern Virginia, Inc. (President from 1993 through 1996), the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, and Citizens of Faith United for Housing.
