- Collection of drinking water samples from the county’s water distribution system,- Conducts field and in lab analysis including: total residual chlorine, pH, turbidity, conductivity, salinity, alkalinity and sulfides- Analyses pertaining to the presence of E. coli, total coliform, and total solids and suspended solids- Knowledge of traceability, quality control and chain of custody practices, and keeping organized records of these practices as well as possesses a strong understanding of data integrity- Reacts to citizen complaints pertaining to drinking water- Performs maintenance and ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment

Lab work consists of:- Perfoms routine maintenance of field equipment (i.e. gas flux chambers and peripherals).- Preps and analyzes soil, porewater, and gas samples according to study protocol- Utilizes a Shimadzu Scientific GC-2014 Gas Chromatograph in order to analyze methane and carbon dioxide harvested from soil microbial and plant respiration.- Utilizes a Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000+ Ion Chromatograph for analysis of porewater chemistryFieldwork consists of:- Collection and sectioning of soil core samples for lab prep and analysis.- Collection of porewater for lab analysis- Executes rapid vegetation surveys in each plot and measures photosynthetic rates of the plant community within the study site using a LiCor LI-6400XT Portable Photosynthesis System.- Performs “on-the-fly” troubleshooting of field equipment

Chesapeake Bay Foundation Project:- Coordinated a volunteer effort between Virginia Commonwealth University and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to assist the foundation in managing the everyday care and maintenance of a series of aquatic growth chambers for the cultivation of freshwater submerged aquatic vegetation that would bolster the foundation’s Chesapeake Bay watershed restoration efforts.- Assisted the foundation at multiple restoration sites within the Chesapeake Bay watershed by identifying known invasive plant species and practicing proper removal techniques in an effort to insure the healthy growth of native flora and fauna within the watershed.St. Francis Emma of Belmead Project:- Assisted in the taxonomic classification of all flora and fauna in a large number of vernal pools located on the Belmead property.Compiled a database of all classified organisms for the FrancisEmma’s running biological record

Conducted an independent investigation of the Historical Tidal Forest Composition and Contemporary Woody Recruitment Following Dam Removal from a Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain Tidal Freshwater Wetland, through the collection of samples of woody vegetation for DNA extraction, as well as through a series of systematic vegetation surveys under the supervision of the university’s resident wetland ecologist and a graduate student.
