About Sean O'Leary, P.E.
It has been a long time since my first electrical engineering job with a small research group who put a fluid physics experiment into space. I was responsible for all the electrical and programming in the group. We met astronauts, touched the space shuttle and visited the birthplace of the Utah and Jarvik artificial hearts.I left that group to work with a mining company. They had constructed a smelter with over 70,000 control points, one of the largest in the world. I viewed it as one giant robot. Over 4 years I worked in varied aspects of this robot from, the control system to field supervisor. I crawled inside of boilers and turbines and designed controllers for a chemical plant that recovered metals.I worked with an aerospace group that was redesigned the guidance system for the Trident Missile (SLBM). I held the most accurate accelerometer that had ever been designed (a device that could measure the earth tide – the response of the ground to the moon). We did analog circuit and test equipment design.I came full circle when I worked for a small R & D company where a typical week could consist of circuit design, PCB layout or assembly, programming, welding, or going to the desert and playing with high explosives. Today, I am the Owner of Celtic Engineering Solutions. We design circuits and PCB’s, write firmware and design custom enclosures to help our customers produce prototypes that lead to products. Growing a business has brought new challenges and new opportunities.
