Being part of a small organization, I was personally responsible for all mechanical engineering activities within the company. While supporting the existing product portfolio, I developed a new generation of solar-powered controllers intended to replace several existing products. The original controllers had only two battery capacities (20Whr and 40Whr) with an additional External Battery (80Whr) able to provide extra capacity to the smallest controller (20Whr + 80Whr).••The new Unibody controller supports several LiFePO4 battery capacities (40-160Whr), has a higher power built-in MPPT charger utilizing larger solar panels, provides more I/O power ports for a broader range of off-grid appliances such as TVs, radios, lights, or water pumps.

Coached elementary school kids for a regional Science Olympiad where they took 1st and 2nd places in the Solar Collector category. Explained and showed basic thermodynamics principles, engineering methods, and data collection in practice. Provided materials, shop space, and tools for making and evaluating prototypes.••Burning Man | Root Society Stage - Performed structural analysis of 30ft-tall curved truss towers with balconies supporting human load plus equipment and calculated required anchoring. Series of steel cables spanned between five curved towers and one large central tower to tension and support a large matrix of shade sails over one of the largest dance floors.

While working at Soraa, I had a unique opportunity to lead the mechanical design of a wide range of LED lighting products and solve complex optical, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing problems. I traveled overseas to establish new relationships with various contact manufacturers in Taiwan, China, Indonesia and developed multiple high-volume product assembly lines.••I was responsible for the complete mechanical design of large-format ceiling grid edge-lit LED Panel lights 2’ x 2’ | 2’ x 4’ | 1’ x 4’ for North America and Europe. I improved the manufacturability of early generation limited-feature designs for high-volume production while developing an expanded family of next-generation products. Several key design improvements and changes of injection-molded plastic parts to sheet metal have allowed the products to receive challenging fire-rated Chicago Plenum and IC certifications.••Responsible for designing a small profile MR11 LED lamp for a high-end fixture manufacturer to replace inefficient halogen bulbs in their collection of hand-blown glass fixtures. I developed a small but effective forged aluminum heat sink that maintained low temperatures of the lamp even when used inside 50-80% enclosed glass fixtures. Combining several established components from other products allowed taking the product from concept to high volume production in under 3 months.••Designed a large family of PAR30 lamps with magnetic accessories and developed a process for attaching magnets to optical components using ultrasonic welding. Identified and implemented a series of cost-saving solutions.

• Participated in every engineering activity of a small solar panel startup, resulting in releasing a high efficiency, ultralight, composite solar photo-voltaic panels and racking systems (SolarClover™). • Responsible for taking the product through UL and IEC certifications. • Designed and built custom manufacturing equipment and assembly line. Developed and optimized a novel vacuum laminating process of solar panels. Managed a team of manufacturers/technicians. • Implemented and extended PLM system (Arena) that resulted in effective management of BOM. • Managed company’s participation in a highly visible solar exhibit in downtown San Jose. Interacted with local planning department. • Contributed to the design and patent of a unique crystalline wafer interconnect ribbon which allowed the usage of materials with high thermal expansion without damage to the interconnect. • Major contributions to grant applications with the Department of Energy and Department of Defense.

While taking metal fabrication courses, I designed and built a custom Laryngoscope for the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital. I specifically tailored this intubation device for long and narrow jaws of camels/llamas and added an ultra-low profile LED fiber-optic light to the tip. Laryngoscope for cows was too short and stubby, hurting and scaring the camels during the intubation.

Performed Software transaction testing, web services testing, load and performance testing, regression testing, website monitoring. Conducted manual functionality, performance and compatibility testing of the company’s websites. Tested security features, check-in/check-out mechanism, tracking of most frequently retrieved files, etc. Reported software problems to developers and verified fixed bugs. Emphasized testing of the automated e-mailer.

Operated Fire Life Safety System of a high profile downtown office building (One Market). Responsible for life and safety of thousands of tenants in emergency situations. Setup and use of surveillance equipment. Created and implemented processes for secure building administration. Recruiting, interviewing and training new security officers.

Junior Level System Administration; configuration and maintenance of SGI and NT workstations; setup and management of user accounts and disk space. Solved software, hardware and network issues for students, faculty and staff. Trained new Lab Techs in Windows, UNIX and hardware/software troubleshooting. Performed preventative maintenance, upgrades and backups. Helped users effectively use computing and network resources.

Responsibilities entailed mapping out and planning of Bay Area businesses as well as travelling to, photographing and documenting those companies. Provided digital images for the Internet Yellow Pages.
