Assisted in the research and monitoring of threatened and endangered salmonids in the Willamette River basin. I primarily worked with spring Chinook salmon. Specifically, I seined for juveniles (pole, beach, and snorkel), applied thousands of PIT-tags to juveniles and adults, floy tagged adults, sampled juvenile and adults at hatcheries, navigated rivers and streams to observe spawning salmon (rowed, paddled, and walked), identified redds, collected biologic samples from carcasses, removed and read coded-wire-tags, assisted with scale analysis, and data entry. Other tasks that were not a part of my regular duties include:- Night snorkeled for a bull trout as a part of a bull trout reintroduction and mark/recapture project.- Used radio-telemetry to track adult salmonids throughout the Willamette river basin.- Completed spawning surveys for endangered winter steelhead and lamprey.

Completed northern spotted owl and marbled murrelet surveys, fish presence/absence surveys, and monitored water quality. Survey activities took place in the steep, mountainous terrain of western Oregon and Washington under a variety of environmental conditions. Night and pre-dawn work made up 2/3 of the workload. Most of the work required working alone at night, navigating along logging roads.

Summer 2009 & 2010Backpack electrofished headwater streams for fish and amphibians. Marked amphibians using visual implant elastomer (VIE). Marked salmonids, sculpins, and larger amphibians with PIT tags.
