With the help of our Risk Management Department I founded and am currently chairing Lipscomb's Environmental, Health and Safety Committee. The purpose of this committee is to establish a safety culture at Lipscomb University through the use of the collaborative efforts of various departments at the university. The committee is also responsible for reviewing our new EHS policies and guidelines in order to help build and maintain a safety oriented foundation for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors that we can expand and improve upon in the coming future.

I teach a 3 hour course(lecture+lab) in the Biology Department at Lipscomb University. I have taken the area of histology and merged it with current research topics in order to show the connection between the organization of tissues in the human body and how it affects research and research techniques in modern day science.

I am responsible for the maintenance of the current health and safety standards of the biology, chemistry, pharmacy and engineering labs at Lipscomb University. As the university continues to expand and grow, I will be in charge of developing a more in-depth lab and general safety curriculum. During a mission trip to the Village of Hope, outside of Accra, I had the unique opportunity to work with the medical side of the campus in establishing and reviewing safety procedure and best practices. Right now the village of hope houses a community hospital, an optometrist, a dentist, and a medical laboratory. I worked with the staff there to identify potential areas of concern regarding safety in all of the aforementioned areas. In addition, I worked with them to help them organize a committee to begin to institute some safe practices in there hospital and medical laboratory.

We are responsible for the rights and welfare of the people involved in research in the St. Vincent's Health System. We meet monthly to review, discuss and approve the different study protocols involving human subjects. Using the guidelines set forth by the federal government, we determine if all studies are practical and ethical when it concerns human subjects. Our main goal is to make sure that that the benefits to the subject and the importance of the knowledge gained outweigh the risks to the subject; make sure legal consent is obtained; and to make sure that selection of subjects is fair and represent the group that will benefit from the research.
