I am a Pharmacist experienced in Hospital Pharmacy, traditional Nuclear Pharmacy, and the production of radiopharmaceuticals for Positron Emission Tomography. I was among the first Pharmacists to operate cyclotrons for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals. I have an interest in the biological sciences especially botany and marine biology. Recently a small group of friends and I have been conducting a survey of the plants in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California with the goal of publishing a flora. As a young man I was intrigued that plants could produce molecules that are completely foreign to our bodies but affect us so profoundly. That led me toward a career in Pharmacy. Years later, while conducting plant surveys in the San Jacinto Mountains, that fascination came full circle. I learned of stinging nettle's unique method of self defense. It produces complex molecules some of which are essential to our nervous systems which it injects into its unsuspecting victims. In 1983 I participated in a research project on Nutrition and Health in the People's Republic of China where I bought a packet of Ma Huang an ancient herbal remedy that is the basis for many bronchodilator drugs. I incorporated this into counseling sessions with COPD patients to demonstrate the evolution of drugs in the treatment of disease.I have taught pharmacology to nursing students, conducted in-service training and outpatient workshops, participated in Health Fairs, and given presentations to Nuclear Medicine Technologists.I am a founder and principal organizer of the Idyllwild Lemon Lily Festival and Lilium parryi restoration project and have given presentations to Native Plant Societies and authored published articles about lemon lilies and other native plant species.I have experimented with plant tissue culture drawing from aseptic techniques used in sterile compounding.Other volunteer efforts include studying whales and dolphins in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Canary Islands.
Listed skills include Aseptic Technique, Radiation Safety, Cyclotron Operations, Quality Control, and 35 others.
