About Disha T.
I am a life sciences researcher with over 10 years of experience at the interface of multi-omics data analysis, and microbiology. I started my journey as a computational biologist at Tata Research Design and Development Centre (TRDDC) and developed a keen interest in experimental biology. Armed with skills in bioinformatics, I started my second innings in research through a Ph.D. in evolution of live bacterial vaccines and its impact on host immune system. Besides doing science, I enjoy writing about science (micro-bites and FEMS microblog, see my work experience). For collaborations and discussion, please feel free to drop me a message on LinkedIn.

Postdoctoral Researcher
CurrentI am working on the knowledge management projects - the Digital Botanical Gardens Initiative (DBGI) and the Earth Metabolome Initiative (EMI). My research is focused on incorporating the data from TRY-db plant datasets and GLOBI pairwise interactions in a knowledge graph depicting connections between organisms and their metabolic content. Science Writer And Editor
CurrentIn my jargon-free, easy to understand articles, I explain about the complex and emerging discoveries in the field of Microbiology.
Associate Researcher
I was amongst 20 selected participants in COMET-career program at Uni Bern, which focusses on female early career researchers and mentors them. Investigating the role of gut microbiota in metabolic disorders (associated with obesity) in a gnotobiotic mouse model.Build models of temporal gut microbial interactions with a live vaccine candidate.
Doctoral Researcher
Investigated evolution of a potential live vaccine candidate over long term colonization in mouse gut. Inferred pathway clusters from mouse gastrointestinal tissues in response to the live vaccine. Built a reproducible pipeline for classifying nanopore amplicon sequencing data from microbial communities.
Researcher
Process the Next Generation Sequencing (Metagenomics) data and implement Data Mining algorithms to analyze the same, Develop strategies to decipher useful information from the NGS data
Teaching Assistant
Designed a systematic curriculum for the course "Computing Tools". This course involved problem solving using scripting languages (Shell, Python)
Teaching Assistant
Helped the students understand the basics of Programming and Logic for the course "Computer Problem Solving".
