I am a USMC veteran, and over the past two decades I have worked in physical security and as a first responder. As an EMT I learned how to maintain my discipline and focus in high stress situations, providing aid to those experiencing a medical crisis. In the security field I gained skills and experience from working in different roles including loss prevention. In 2020, I made the decision to bet on my self and move away from physical security and looked into the growing field of cybersecurity. After completing and obtaining my Cyber Defense Professional Certification from UCF, my goal of working in cybersecurity came to fruition. My career started out as an application and windows specialist, I then moved into a technical support position learning about business continuity and disaster recovery. My current role as a cybersecurity analyst and physical security specialist allows me to combine my many years of experience from physical security and incorporate my skills that I have learned in cybersecurity, and gaining new knowledge centered around OT, ICS, and SCADA.As an Associate Cybersecurity Instructor for ThriveDX, I am part of an amazing team of instructors teaching future cybersecurity professionals the knowledge and skills they need to enter the cybersecurity field. In my role not only do I get to instruct across many disciplines, but I also get to be a mentor to them, as a graduate of the program myself we can connect at a deeper level as I share my experiences from when I was in the program. The time I spent as an instructor motivated me to go to college and earn a degree in cybersecurity information and assurance through WGU, with the focus and determination of becoming a security engineer in the near future.
