My name is Danilo Trinidad Pérez-Rivera. I’m a Puerto Rican student-scientist unraveling networks: mostly neurons, sometimes people. I am particularly interested in the construction of theoretical frameworks through which the intricacies of neural circuits, cognitive development, and decision-making can be causally linked to pathological outcomes in mental health. My research interests have converged and diverged from the ends of chemistry to the depths of mathematics and the complexity of biology. At the end of the day, no one cares if you’re a chemist, a mathematician, a biologist, or whatever you may claim to be. We work together to solve problems. That’s what we really care about.

Acheieved contact of 95% of all COVID-19 cases within 48 hours in all 78 municipalities of Puerto Rico, publishing weekly updates on case investigation and contact tracing.Established the framework for outbreak management using graph-theoretical approaches. Led the deployment of Monoclonal Antibody analytic patient-focused distribution based on case investigation data.Implemented health promotion reforms that facilitated active monitoring of public policy efficacy, including communications regarding vaccine deployment and the relationships between community transmission and mobility.

Part of the NSF International Program for the Advancement of Neurotechnology. Mentored by Dr. Stefan Rotter in the quantitative analysis of principles in Neuronal Dynamics.

Redirected efforts towards the encouragement of participation of the entire student body of upwards of 3,500 students in the decision making processes of our institution. This was achieved through the strategic use of informative online communications and effective organization of physically meeting assemblies of more than 1,000 students in attendance.

Participated as a Research Assistant to a variety of professors in fields such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Computational Biology.

NSF/NIH Fellow through the Bridge to the PhD in Neuroscience Program. Supervised by Dr. Mark Reimers in the multi-dimensional characterization of neuron firing patterns of distinct brain regions.

Integrative Molecular Plant Systems Research Experience for Undergraduates participant under the supervision of Dr. Cranos Williams at the Engineering Biological Systems (EnBiSys) laboratory. Project aims were direct towards understanding tissue patterning generation during seedpod development in Arabidopsis thaliana using Agent Based Modeling (ABM).

Participated as a full-time research assistant for a summer while working on a Basic Science-Focused Project that implemented Computational and Statistical Methods to the analysis of Lateralized Neural Injuries.
