Built up and ran the Interim Professional Division of SCS from 2004 from 2009 - networking widely in order to place up to 100 professionals concurrently in temporary posts - turning over £8M annually and maximizing profit by leading a lean, highly motivated and effective management team.

During his Army career Julian was a commander, staff officer, professional pilot, trainer , personnel officer, commando and parachutist, having run a Flying Training School (an operational and domestic estate with assets of £450M and budget of £2.5M) a Personnel and Manning Branch (3,600 All Ranks) and latterly was HM Defence Attaché in Vienna. Notable achievements, aside from operational deployments, were winning flying pay parity for Non Commissioned Officers, extending career lengths, saving many million of pounds in training replacement pilots and standardising Soldier’s careers with that of Officers. From the Embassy in Vienna he negotiated the successful sale of C130 Hercules and assisted with the sale of Typhoon aircraft to Austria, the former saving jobs at Marshalls Aerospace. He had the honour to be elected Doyen of the Vienna International Attaché Corps.
