About Duane Raymond

Contact: duane@fairsay.com | skype: fairsay | phone: +44 207 993 4200My main expertise is in social change and sustainable business (and beyond). Both are closely linked to organisational and system change and how to navigate and prepare for that.I advise civil society organisations to become highly effective at campaigning. This includes strategic planning, project management, staff development, developing actionable performance analytics, using analysis to identify and continually improve best practices, digital transformation and organising events for experienced practitioners and mangers to share and connect. In the last 5 years I've also been leading the operations of a Artificial Intelligence-focused startup. My experience ranges from business (consultancy with many companies while with Cap Gemini; financial services and sustainability in UBS; facilitation at pharma company GSK) to civil society (Oxfam, Greenpeace, Amnesty, health charities, AIESEC and client work via FairSay). Over the last 20 years I have bee a significant influence in re-shaping campaigning at civil society organisations around Europe and beyond. I had a similar impact in AIESEC where I led the transformation of the flagship international work exchange programme that led to its resurgence after a decade of declining results.I have been active in leading large and small groups for over 25 years including: - helping to move groups in the agreed direction - negotiating partnerships - organising and running international events from 5 to 1,000 people - actively managing teams - founding and stewarding a global community of 4,000 campaigning and digital practitionersOver my working life, I'd like to work to make this time be the 'turnaround' generation: the point where the world switched from an unsustainable to a sustainable future. Thus I choose work opportunities that enable my efforts to be a multiplier for successful strategies and practices. This includes working with civil society, business and governments where there is potential for progress or cross-over learning.

  • Fairsay Ltd
    Managing Director (And Founder)
Fairsay Ltd Aug 2000 - Present
I am a pioneer in cutting edge highly effective campaigning (activism), especially via digital channels, networks and tools. I have worked with most of the world's most trusted non-profit organisations and helped them understand where they were, where they could be and how to get there.I've also influenced a generation of digital campaigning practitioners through the annual Campaigning Forum event(s) which bring together leading campaigning and digital practitioners. The eCampaigning Forum community that grew out of this is now at a major influence of NGO digital campaigning around the world. It has also help spawn and support a growing network of agencies, consultants and freelancers who can advise and support civil society campaigns. The event itself has also inspired other events with a different profile of participant.Furthermore I've pioneered frameworks and metrics for evaluating e-campaigning and evolved these over the last 18 years. These have been used by the commissioning organisation to dramatically improve their digital campaigning efforts. Finally, the pioneering digital campaigning training series I developed has accelerated participants learning about integrating digital with campaigning. It has also inspired other learning programmes around the world.Through my work I have become familiar with many issues, including trade (commodities, intellectual property, expert credits, labour, etc), development, conflict, environment, human rights, health issues, and more.I have been introduced by others with phrases like "all digital campaigning roads lead to Duane" (Bethany at NCVO) and as "the godfather of good geekery" (Tom at ActionAid International). When founding FairSay, I envisioned and researched the potential for a sustainable business that brings key campaigning, business and governmental stakeholders together to help resolve differences and find the best solutions to their different interests.
