I was promoted to Publisher after two years with Boardworks. My main responsibilities were overseeing the production of all projects within the Social Sciences division. This involved line-managing up to nine individuals and it was not uncommon for three or four major projects to be running simultaneously. I was promoted to Senior Editor in the Humanities team after one year with Boardworks. I became responsible for publishing all ICT, D&T and PE products. The work involved daily editing using Flash, Photoshop, Indesign and other multimedia tools; liaising with authors and commissioning new work whilst ensuring overall project quality; project management of specific products and development of in-house video and media facilities. A key aspect of the roles was working directly with Editors and Editorial Assistants and being heavily involved in their training and development.

I joined Boardworks as an Editor and was initially working on a variety of Science, Humanities and ICT projects. My hard work and diligence was noted from early on and I was given an early opportunity to project manage and produce a key ICT release which went exceptionally well. As well as working on projects, I also provided wider support within the Humanities team and suggested a number of improvements to company processes which were well-received and quickly adopted.

I was responsible for the production and dissemination of marketing materials that accompanied the books imported from our US partners. This was a demanding job involving a good deal of liaison with my US colleagues and dealing with numerous request as the revenue from the imported US textbooks accounted for around a quarter of the company’s total income, I was promoted to Marketing Executive towards the end of my employment at Palgrave.
