I teach RF/microwave electronics, introductory quantum mechanics and quantum optics, intelectual property in industry, and space technology. Doing research in RF electronics and, with my doctoral student, on multi-spectral light sensing from a satellite in Low-Earth Orbit. I dabble in a number of other things, such as, quantum communications, just because it's interesting. As Thomas Crown put it succinctly in 1999: "what else are we going to do?"

Managed the design and manufacture of RF/mm-wave amplifiers with GaN-on-diamond HEMTs: (a) performed thermal and device modeling; (b) built and operated a device life-test system to assess GaN-on-diamond device wearout characteristics; (c) developed laser-machining process for via and die separation on diamond wafers, and (d) managed the development of the world's first GaN-on-diamond X-band amplifier module. Once you get involved with diamond, you can never really shake it off.

Led XLoom design team in Tel Aviv through development of 20 Gb/s InfiniBand Transceiver Modules; managed US accounts. I did not found this company nor did I have stock in it, but I lived and loved it as if I did. You can't beat being in the cleanroom until midnight with friends and then go out downtown Tel Aviv for drinks and food.

Provided technical assistance, intellectual property and business development to companies involved with semiconductor-component technologies. Partial list clients includes Cambrios Technologies, Symmorphix, Inc., and USL Technologies, LLC. Most important was being an expert witness a lot during this time. Working in IP is a different universe. I can write patents now.

Assisted company with characterization of semiconductor lasers and associated electronics for 10-Gbps communication applications. It was like being in gradschool again. Learning as I go.

Founded company, raised $20M in funding, managed company from founding to first product sale; served as Chief Executive Officer, but later realized I like being Chief Technical Officer better. Alvesta Corporation manufactured 10Gb/s four-channel fiber-optic transceivers for short-distance and computer interconnects. I learned how to be an executive, a CEO and a member of the company board, and all about business from my boss. My boss was the Velvet Fist, one awesome guy.

While working at the country club I investigated wafer bonding of InP and GaAs in PH3 overpressure trying to make better wafer bonded long-wavelength vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser. Besides HF, this was probably the most toxic substance I ever used. Worked with great people and made great friends. Realized I wanted to start a company.

Microwave diode development: varactors, switches, and limiters. Wrote "Lynus" automated test environment in Rocky Mountain Basic on HP's 200-series computer. The program was used in its original form until about 2015 thanks to my then manager and friend Rockford Curby. This is worth repeating: I wrote code that was used for 30 years! ****In 2017 I converted it to MATLAB and it is still in use today for testing at Eridan Communications and at FER.
