Duke Durfee was born in the US, grew up in Kenya, went to school in Minnesota and Pennsylvania and started his design company DMD Group, Inc. in New York City. He now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.Durfee has worked all over the world, designing launches for Peugeot's 505 Intro at the Lido Theatre in Paris, GM's Hummer in Times Square, GM's 'Volt', Porsche's Boxster, and Chrysler's PT Cruiser. Launches include shows for Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mercedes, Opel, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Cadillac, Nissan, Acura, Honda, Volvo, Chevy and Subaru. Clients include Apple, IBM, MCI, Microsoft, Compuware, Sony, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Nike, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Kline, Ralph Lauren, Azzedine Alaia, MetLife, Mattel, Dow Chemicals, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Mobil Oil, Chevron, Universal Studios, Cineplex Odeon, and Mack Truck among others.As consultant, Duke has provided expertise to David Copperfield's Dreams and Nightmares and EFX, the largest special effects stage show in the world, and created theme designs for NikeTown NY, (THEA Award), the Rainforest Darkride for Petrosains Malaysia, the motion-based Marlboro Adventure Team, (Exhibitor Magazine Gold Award) and Marvel's Touring Theme Park. Entertainment designs include the original attraction, Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue at Universal Studios LA, production design for Mariah Carey’s 1996 Pacific and European tours, the Doobie Brothers' concert Rockin' Down the Highway, MTV's Halloween Special (first immersive VR broadcast in US) and the television series Sessions @ West 53rd St. for Automatic Productions and SONY Music. In his early career, Durfee worked on Broadway productions including Me and My Girl, Nine, M. Butterfly and Dancing at Lughnasa, Metamorphosis, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and many others. Recently he won the Bay Area Drama Critics Award for designs at TheaterWorks in Menlo Park. In the Automotive market, I was production designer for many different product launches and press events including the introduction of Chrysler's PT Cruiser, GM's Avalanche, The Dodge Charger, The Mercedes ME Supercar, the Chevy Volt and many more. My designs for the New York State Theater's production of 'Born Yesterday' toured here, then was part of the State Department Cultural Exchange to Sweden.

President And Principal DesignerDmd Group, Inc. 1990 - 2000After opening my own design studio, I concentrated on implementing new technology into live productions, helping launch 'Digital Barbie' at Toy Fair, the VSN network for Sprint and continued supervision work for Broadway, touring shows and large-scale productions like EFX for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, through my old pals at Harris Production Services. 'Sessions @ West 54th Street' on PBS was my most widely-seen project for this period. I remain a part of PRG organization as consultant to their Global Special Projects group.

Resident Designer & CreativeHarris Production Services 1986 - 1990Greater New York City AreaI was fortunate to be on the first show where Jere Harris, Fred Gallo, Roy Sears and John Wolf got together. We hit it off and I was part of their office for some time, working on shows like 'M. Butterfly', ' La Bete', 'Cyrano' and 'Metamorphosis'. I was also responsible for bringing over shows from the UK like' Me & My Girl', 'An Inspector Calls', 'The Merchant of Venice' and 'Dancing at Lughnasa', later adapting such shows to tour. I also produced shows for them, notably the spectacular launch of Christian La Croix's fragrance line.

Associate DesignerLawrence Miller Design 1984 - 1986Working for my mentor, the late Larry Miller, I was the principal assistant on Broadway shows like 'Nine' and 'Teaneck Tanzi'. I was Art Director to Larry's Production Designer for films like 'The Flamingo Kid' and 'The Electric Grandmother', assisted on off-Broadway's 'Cloud Nine' and helped design some of the beloved 'Bud Light' commercials. In Larry's studio, I learned about Corporate Theater when we designed the 99th Anniversary Events for Coca-Cola.
