My career has been -- and continues to be -- varied, interesting, and exciting. I am currently an Engineering and Computer Science teacher at a private middle school/high school in Reston, Virginia. I teach students how to apply science and engineering concepts to real-world problems and projects. I show them how to use tools (algorithms, processes, software, technology, and power tools) to make projects come to life using the engineering design process. Prior to being a teacher, I was a workshop instructor at Tech Shop, sharing my love of microcontrollers and electronics with children and adult makers. For a couple of decades, I owned a small software company called Green Moon Solutions. At Green Moon, we built customized web-based applications for nonprofit organizations and small businesses. We worked in the areas of event management, donation processing, and membership management. We leveraged the Web to pull in client data, conduct e-commerce transactions, and communicate with constituents. After obtaining my masters degree, I began a career as a management consultant, conducting cost-benefit analyses, capacity estimates, and life cycle cost estimates for transportation, satellite, and military systems.I began my career as a project manager/engineer in the Air Force, analyzing modifications to jet engines and guidance systems from both technical and economic perspectives. Also, I am an artist maintaining a studio in Arlington, Virginia. I began as a painter, but now enjoy working with a variety of media. I also enjoy making art interactive by embedding sensors and microcontrollers in them and having them respond to people, lighting, and even the weather.
