As an Associate General Counsel, I have provided a wide range of legal support to companies, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, HR matters and project execution. It is the last item – project execution – that makes me unique in my field. I am passionate about negotiating design build and engineering/equipment supply contracts, but I love staying involved with these projects until they are delivered successfully. There is a role for legal counsel as major projects unfold, but I also bring a project management interest which adds unexpected value to the team.Another reason I am motivated by executing projects is that many of the initiatives I support have substantial environmental impact. Over the course of my career, I have negotiated the construction of a $250M water treatment facility to recycle contaminated water, design-build projects in the Oil & Gas, mining, and food & beverage industries, and a $3M grant to demolish and clear a decommissioned steel production plant. Knowing that these projects drive positive environmental change and improve life on this planet gives my work extra meaning, purpose and inspiration. Finally, I truly enjoy working with leadership teams that operate on a foundation of trust and respect. Without trust, leaders retreat to their own fiefdoms and create a fractured organizational culture. Conversely, trust and respect drive teamwork, which in turn drives higher expectations and beliefs in the team. That energized team creates the right behaviors and habits, leading to success.
