Intern, Spacecraft Systems Core Engineering

Ssl

Palo Alto, California

As a CORE Engineering Intern, I worked within the Spacecraft Systems CORE in the Configuration department. Notable tasks include to following:▪ Updating the Configuration design library to aid in Model Based Design. To better improve the manufacturing process, drawing protocols were changed to supply assembly technicians with 3D CAD models rather than 2D renderings.▪ Conducting hardware checks within Creo, ensuring that manufacturing had all necessary information to fasten structural components to the satellite bus. Every ounce of mass matters when propelling any object into space, so even the fasteners needed to be selected with mass constraints in mind.▪ Designing the initial cabling route from GPS antennae to receiver on Restore-L, a satellite whose mission is to refuel a government satellite already in orbit.▪ Collaborating with other interns to design new and innovative ways to utilize smallsats. As the space industry has grown, the technology itself has been shifting towards more miniaturized payloads. I and other interns were tasked with brainstorming possible applications of smallsats and how they might be implemented with current company hardware.

Lead Instructor

Lafayette, California

As a Lead Instructor at Galileo Summer Quest (GSQ) Lafayette -- a summer camp centered around cultivating innovation and problem-solving skills -- I taught the Go-Karts major with the help of one to three Assistant Instructors. My fellow instructors and I would train campers, ranging in age from 10 to 13 years old, how to safely use power drills and basic woodworking tools. Over the course of the week, teams of two to three campers would work together to create soap-box style go-karts in any design of their choosing, either building based on the standard kit provided or letting their creativity guide their work.
