I had to engage with WorleyParsons and Tati Nickel to come up with the appropriate project team to deliver all aspects required for the geological portion of the feasibility study. This portion of the project totalled R3 million and included 6 professionals working over a period of 8 months. The geology project team was responsible for the delivery of a hydrological model, a structural model, a geological model and resource estimate. I was responsible for ensuring timeous and on budget delivery of all geology components of the study. I also compiled all the team’s reports into a single working document and presented the final work product to Tati Nickel. This project was a complex structurally deformed deposit which required innovative solution to model and the commitment of a professional team to work concurrently to deliver multiple work streams to various end users. This project ultimately was essential for Tati Nickel to understand their operational strategy of their assets moving forward. TP&A successfully delivered on all aspects of the project and received a commendation from Tati Nickel for the thorough delivery and excellent work product.

This time we were only providing resource estimation services and I was working under a Senior Geologist within WorleyParsons. I had to keep to the provided schedule and budget as agreed with WorleyParsons in the estimation and modelling of the 4 unique pits. Using my experience, I applied an alternate modelling method to what the client, Sedibeng, was familiar with. WorleyParsons backed the choice and gave me license to proceed. Through numerous contact sessions we motivated that the method we employed delivered a satisfactory result. This model was designed almost 5 years ago and they are still using the exact same model with favourable results on their yearly reconciliations. ☛JORC compliant signed-offTP&A was given the task of providing a JORC compliant signed-off resource for a chrome mine who wanted to secure investor funding. I was given the mandate of auditing the procedures followed on the operation and ensuring the reliability of the information. This QAQC and data audit was successful and followed with a resource estimate conducted solely by myself. The result was then handed over to the client who were satisfied with the result and successful in declaring the resources as we had estimated them. In both projects I had no subordinates and worked in mostly an individual capacity, reporting mainly to the director of the company and where necessary the senior geologist on the Sedibeng Project as well as the client liaisons on the Chrome project.

Co-Ordinator Geologist
To improve production, the mine needed to enter a new area. The area was known but the optimum point of entry was not. This block was significantly down-thrown and it was necessary to develop a decline to access the block. I was tasked with establishing which point would give the best access to the block while sterilising the least amount of ore. While the decision of which entry point to use was not mine, it was my report and detailed cross-sections which were used to determine the entry point. Once the entry point was decided upon I was tasked with managing the geological aspects of the decline and ensured that the mining was matching the predicted geology to ensure correct safety procedures and that the holing would occur at the right level. Ultimately the decline matched the cross-section exceptionally well and there were only minimal delays in the development of the decline due to unforeseen water intersections.
