I Graduated as an Electronics technologist after gaining College certification and completing an apprenticeship at the National Cash Register company (UK) in 1972.I then Graduated from Tayside University (UK) with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1976. I also enjoyed working for a generator manufacturer in Angouleme in France for two 6 month coop terms. I worked for a number of years as a Project Engineer and foreman, building Oil Rigs, for deployment in the North Sea.I then worked as a Construction Planning Engineer aboard three different Oil rigs, in the North Sea, during their construction and commissioning. I had an interesting interlude when I was rescued by helicopter from a 100,000 ton ship that had lost its engines during a massive storm that sent the ship towards the rocks of the Orkney islands.In 1981 we came to Victoria, BC.Canada. I worked as a consultant for a few years in ship design for various clients such as DND, Coast Guard, BC ferries, International Submarine Engineering and DFO.We moved to Ottawa in 1984 for two years with Versatile Systems Engineering, to conduct the detail design of Electrical systems on the Canadian Patrol frigates.We moved back to Victoria where I commuted to Vancouver for two years to design the Canadian Coast Guard Polar Eight Icebreaker with Burrard Yarrows.. I then continued in Vancouver as the Engineering Manager for Burrard Yarrows and led a team of technologists to design the electrical systems for the BC 470 car 'Super' Ferries, three of which were built. I worked at DND for 21 years as The Electrical Engineering Officer in the Fleet Maintenance Facility where I led a very dedicated team of Engineers and Technologists. I was awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee medal for my efforts. I worked at Babcock Canada for 4 years on Submarines, prior to retiring in 2018.
