25+ years experience working globally in protected area management. Working with site management as well as national and international networks of site management organisations.2024-25 projects include:- UNEP SPAW/RAC (network of Caribbean protected areas) funded project to review management planning within the international network of 37 sites and make recommendations for updates.- Technical reporting for STINAPA Bonaire, the management organisation of Bonaire National Marine Park and Washington Slagbaai Park for the year 2023 using a management success framework developed since 2004. Including extensive interviews with 15 senior staff, reporting and social media scans. - Assessing the feasibility of the UKs first sustainably funded, actively managed Coastal Park, using a model tested internationally, working with local communities, councils, business, government and research institutions.- UNEP SPAW/RAC (network of Caribbean protected areas) funded project to develop templates to assist with implementing marine protected areas in The Caribbean.- Management Planning for the D'Arros | St Joseph Marine Protection Area, a privately owned island in the North of the Amirantes-Fortune Bank area of The Seychelles. Working closely with Save Our Seas foundation and the staff of D'Arros research Centre- the development of framework for management planning for MPAs throughout the Seychelles with extensive stakeholder from Government of Seychelles, The Nature Conservancy Debt swap/Marine Spatial Planning Initiative, management organisations, coastguard and future users of the template.- initiation and contribution to the IUCN/WCPA standardised Lexicon for Protected Areas, - working with a network of protected area organisations across the Dutch Caribbean on numerous protected area management planning processes and protected area effectiveness evaluations since 2004.- recent projects include: development of UNEP Species Action Plans, conservation species lists, IUCN/WCPA Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT4) Beta version pilot testing for WCPA, IUCN Vital Sites Webinar, Park Disaster Response Manual development. Other things I spend my time on... family, being outside, dogs, surfing empty waves, running, long walks, cooking and design.
