I started locating when we were Pit and Pipe Contractors for Telstra and other Utility providers in 1982. I still work for Telstra as a remote area locator .In those days the electronic locators were quite rudimentary and it was always backed up with potholing with an excavator or shovel.We also built quite a few traffic light intersections, highway lighting, HV and LV installations, private fibre optic network construction and much more. Directional Drilling was in it's infancy at that time so we utilized Bed Borers ,Flexi Borers and the good old grundomat.Sometimes we had multiple inner city streets that we had to remove all the old asbestos pits and pipe and re-install new plastic and concrete pits and poly pipe and replace the lead-in to every house.These days we concentrate on QL-A and QL-B investigations, working on the gas fields, general locating and vac truck work, extensive fault locating 12v to 11Kva, cleaning water reservoirs and pump stations and of course pumping sewerage to aid pump renewals and stop overflows etcThe industry has certainly changed over the past 40 years and I still love my job and every day has a mystery to be solved.I am blessed to work with some of the most talented young and old ,male and female co-workers who approach every task with a positive can-do attitude.
