While I have advised mainly on "industry regulation", that covers a very wide range of issues, from human health and human rights, to IPPC/IED, waste incineration, chemicals and COMAH . I have also delivered presentations on a variety of relevant subjects to national and international workshops, including liaising with US EPA colleagues and participating in an international conference in South Korea. I have had conduct of the Environment Agency's defence of judicial reviews and statutory appeals, including leading cases such as R oao Edwards (Pallikaropoulos) v Environment Agency & Ors, and OSS v Environment Agency, which has taken me to the Supreme Court and ECJ, and led to a publication on judicial review and access to justice in the Judicial Review journal. It's been wonderful to be able to apply my linguistic capabilities and experience of EU politics so directly in my professional work. It's been wonderful to be able to apply my linguistic capabilities and experience of EU politics so directly in my professional work. As well as participating in EU Technical Working Groups on unconventional hydrocarbons and the proposed hydrocarbons "Bref", I've managed a UK-led IMPEL (EU regulators') project reviewing best practice across the EU in the regulation of the onshore oil and gas sector (including hydraulic fracturing, or fracking). We delivered a report to the IMPEL General Assembly for last year and won funding to carry on the project in 2016, building on the extensive networks we'd developed with other EU regulators. In the process, the Environment Agency has moved into a very influential position and is widely seen as a leading contributor to international discussions on the regulation of hydrocarbon exploration and production, both conventional and unconventional. I undertook a six-month assignment to manage the team of advisory lawyers in our Solihull office, as we moved from regional to national legal teams as part of a period of intensive change in the organisation. This was another great opportunity to manage a team and gain experience of the operational side of the business, covering a wide variety of legal issues and seeing the team through a challenging adaptation to our new structures and ways of working.

A six-month assignment to programme- and project-manage the Environment Agency's implementation of the Penfold Review's recommendations. The Penfold Review considered non-planning environmental consents and encouraged public bodies to improve the service they provide to developers, including working better together.

I undertook a short-term assignment to our Exeter Regional office to manage the team of advisory lawyers and support staff, following the Regional Solicitor's move to Head Office and the incumbent's acting up to cover her role. I was responsible for under- and postgraduate teaching of courses on the politics of European integration. I developed courses and course materials and managed a small teaching team. I became Deputy Director of EU Studies and convenor of the EUS board of examiners. I also researched on the subject, publishing papers on the EU and the regions, Wales and the EU and interest groups and lobbying in the EU. I was a regular contributor to the Journal of Common Market Studies' annual review.
