My early career was as a plant engineer with Exxon Chemicals. I specialised in all critical equipment types of the downstream oil and chemicals industry: reactors, distillation towers, heat exchangers, other pressure vessles and pipelines, rotating machinery including steam and gas turbines, very large compressor sets. It developed me to be a highly professional and respected engineer. A fascination with the dynamics of business led to a full time MBA at London Business School a global top business schools. I took specialist studies in international business including a BoD level consulting project for ICI in Pakistan, and also took a number of small business and entrepreneurial start up courses. I then worked in economic analysis and North Sea oil field business management and incremental exploration for Conoco, another major oil and gas company. I further built my career with them as a lead business developer in gas and power generation developing small and very large scale cogeneration plants. I moved to a major new entrant into the European energy market, Reliant Energy, establishing an oil, gas and power trading business in London. I consulted for the board of Gasunie, the Dutch national utility setting up a freely traded gas market. I worked as lead developer with a Dutch soft commodity trading business developing their energy trading and also investigated biodiesel and biomass projects around the world. I set up a business with a partner making and installing an energy efficiency product for large industrial and commercial companies. In my career to date I have loved being able to be in the detail as well as managing teams and driving company strategic direction. I have been a Director of a variety of companies for 30 years from oil shipping companies to power generation companies, energy trading companies and latterly my own start up business. I thrive at this level.My principle interest continues to lie in supporting and leading business success in dynamic growth environments. The demands of solving climate change offer many exciting challenges. I continue to enjoy using my commercial experience and acumen converting ideas into businesses, driving project execution in this growing imperitive. I like to roll up my sleeves and work hard doing, advising, leading, directing, working deep in the details, whatever the task requires.I am currently working with the newly reformed team of global CCUS experts at Azuli international Ltd seeking to drive forwards the growth of carbon capture and storage.
