About Duncan Tulimieri
Whether it is an interesting result or an increase in positive user experience, improvement is what keeps me going. For the last 8 years I have been working in the world of movement ranging from understanding the mechanisms of and competencies needed for dry needling to how and why a stroke can change our movement. One common thread through all these years and experiences has been the motivation of improving our knowledge and understanding of something we take for granted every day. Outside of these studies, I am a passionate freelancing data scientist. I have had the opportunity to work on projects ranging from simulating datasets for a textbook to optimizing and rewriting entire code bases. During my degree I have known that industry moves differently than academia and it has been through these experiences I have seen this with my own eyes. And when I look back on these experiences, I know it is where I belong. I believe there is exciting and important work to be done in the industry. As I finish my Ph.D. and start to see my career more clearly, I see myself in a data science role developing and refactoring code to help a company solve their toughest problems as well as gain a competitive edge. Additionally, I see myself teaching, mentoring, and most importantly, learning wherever I end up. TAs are rehabilitation researchers with data science skills whom we will train to effectively teach these skills to others. TAs should have at least 2 years of experience programming in either python, Matlab, or R. During the 8-week bootcamp, TAs will host weekly office hours to help learners troubleshoot emergent issues. Afterwards, they will host their own mini-bootcamp/workshop using content provided by ReproRehab (or they can create their own content) for their own local research communities. In this way, TAs can learn how to become leaders in teaching data science to rehabilitation researchers. During the 8 week online bootcamp: 1 hour hands-on office hour with learner pods 2 hours other time (e.g., briefly reviewing pre-recorded video lectures, Q&A with the educational leadership team, answering learners’ questions online via slack or email, etc.)After the online bootcamp: 1 week - Expectation to host “micro-workshop” for your local community using bootcamp materials or your own materials
