Stationed onboard USS AMERICA CV-66, aircraft carrier of the John F. Kennedy class. Average crew of 5,500 sailors. Global operations areas for Sixth Fleet in the North Atlantic, Caribbean, Arabian Sea, Mediterranean and Persian Gulf.• Officer of the Deck Underway – directly responsible to the Commanding Officer for the safe operation of the ship in his absence. Navigated and maintained ships projected intended movement (PIM). Of the crew; only eight such personnel were qualified for this particular duty. • Engineering Officer of the Watch – oversight of steam plant operations and propulsion systems.• Combat Weapons Information System: Surface Watch Officer – monitored weapons systems, theatre contacts and fleet movement. • 3rd Division Officer – oversight of 35 man workforce. Accountable for maintenance of the forecastle, anchor systems, boat davits and fueling rigs.• CMS Custodian - Possessed Top Secret/NATO Top Secret security clearances. Responsible for strict accountability of all battle-group crypto and onboard classified material during Operation Desert Storm. Also a member of the Sealed Authentication System (SAS) team, responsible for receiving/decoding classified intelligence traffic and maintaining control of special weapons.
