My academic background is as a research chemist although I moved into web programming before becoming involved in the 1998/1999 Murdoch - Manchester United takeover battle working for both IMUSA and SUAM.I've been serving MUST (previously SUAM/Shareholders United) since its formation in 1998 in a variety of roles developing the Shareholders United Share Scheme and building membership with numerous and varied initiatives. My current role as CEO oversees the organisation through the challenging period since the club was taken private by the Glazer takeover in 2005.We are pushing forward on three fronts to progress towards our objective of offering every Manchester United supporter the opportunity to own a stake in their club.1. Financial - building relationships with wealthy Manchester United supporters and financial institutions. Creating financial vehicles to allow supporters to build up funds and then invest in shares when the opportunity arises.2. Membership - with the millions of Manchester United fans worldwide building a mass membership is essential to communicate with that support and ultimately to facilitate their participation in ownership of shares in their club.3. Political - working with all parties to move forward the agenda for supporter ownership of football clubs. Major progress has been made particularly following the inclusion of supporter ownership manifesto commitments from all three main parties for the first time ever in the 2010 General Election. This followed meetings and intense lobbying by MUST. Further progress is expected in 2012 following the DCMS investigation into Football Governance.REDS IN BUSINESS - business network for Manchester United supporters. In June 2009 I created REDS IN BUSINESS to encourage connections between business people who shared a common interest in Manchester United.
