Amongst many things this has included deep analysis of behaviour of IoT devices on IP networks, and diagnosis of erroneous broadcast BACnet traffic on internetworks with hundreds of devices.Tasks often involve working with large data sets such as network scans and COBie data drops from BIM exports, and I've leveraged tools to enable quick scraping, cleansing, and validation of properties such as asset identifiers to ensure uniqueness and that they are well formed in accordance with prescribed naming conventions. Overseeing a growing team consisting of a number of project engineers and software developers, I was able to provide a DevOps-style approach to analysing and improving our engineering and commissioning tools and workflows for our projects across the UK. A major outcome of this was the production of tooling to enable automatic creation of pan-and-zoom lighting graphics for the Niagara Framework based on light fitting data in AutoCAD files. This tooling dramatically reduced graphical engineering time and went on to be sold to a number of lighting OEMs.I continued to work closely with the major KNX and DALI manufacturers and had direct links to their product development teams in Europe, providing insights and feedback. Tridium approach us in 2014 to assist them in creating the next version of the KNX driver (named knxnetIp, replacing eibnetIp), and we offered guidance and continual testing of the new driver throughout its product development. We safely beta tested the new driver on carefully selected sites to permit testing at scale, and the driver was released to the Tridium community in around 2016.Alongside conducting code reviews for our development team, throughout the years I led the design and engineering on a number of high profile KNX and DALI projects including over 3,000 KNX devices and 6,000 DALI devices at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, and deployed lighting and blind control web apps at the RIBA Stirling Prize winning Newport Street Gallery and the headquarters of the Red Bull Racing F1 team in Milton Keynes.In the later years I worked closely with the product development teams at Enlighted in the USA, assisting them in development of a DALI emergency lighting REST API to allow use of self-contained DALI emergency lights on an Enlighted system, something not previously possible. This opened Enlighted to the UK lighting controls market and we extended our tooling to enable one-click configuration of testing and reporting systems. Show less

Most of these projects would leverage the Niagara Framework for logic and provision of graphical user interfaces, including a fully automated emergency light testing and reporting system built by ourselves.The role involved becoming competent in AutoCAD and producing KNX and DALI layouts for construction. I significantly enhanced our CAD and engineering workflows during this time to enable automatic configuration of DALI controllers based on extracts from drawings, and at the same time enable cross-validation of drawings against KNX and DALI programming, ensuring that entities in both documentation and programming matched one-to-one.I worked closely with major KNX manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB and Theben, offering feedback and thoughts to their product development teams across Europe.
