Software /AI platform « Gridshare » to aggregate solar batteries and EV batteries, to create a cloud based "Virtual Power Plant", using AI to optimise energy use. Acquired by Lunar Energy, a US platform founded by the ex head of Tesla Energy and funded by $300m from Sunrun the largest solar installer in the US and industrial conglomerate SK Group. I was semi-exec for 2 years as the 3rd director with the 2 founders and advised on strategy, funding, management processes, hiring, product, go to market and governance. I raised £10m in seed, series A and series B rounds. Investors include HONDA, ITOCHU Corp (Fortune 250), Tokyo Electric PowerCo, First Imagine Ventures, Contrarian Ventures, GMCA and various senior VC/PE/energy execs including Jon Moulton, Jim Mellon, Sam Laidlaw, Ian Marchant, Jeremy Leggett. Pioneered new technology to recycle thin film plastics such as bags and other post-consumer low density polythene. Built the world's 1st-of-a-kind facility to recycle post-consumer LDPE and HDPE into making new products. The facility can process 20,000 tonnes per annum of post-consumer films and bags, equivalent to 2.5 billion HDPE shopping bags. Developed concept of "bag to bag" closed loop system. I bootstrapped first 2 years of business and R&D costs before raising £16 million over 4 rounds of venture capital from seed to series B, from Foresight and others. Interviewed by various national media eg Radio4, Financial Times, Times. Our pioneering facility was visited by 2 Government Ministers (Sir Ed Davey and Sir Michael Fallon).

Goldman Sachs backed waste-to-biofuel technology. I bootstrapped the first 2 years from personal funds to pioneer new technology before raising venture capital. Raised over £50m in 7 rounds from Goldman Sachs (Special Situations Group), Fidelity International, Impax Environmental, AstonHill and private investors : pre-seed, seed, series A, series B, bridge, series C, secondary, pre-IPO. We built the world’s 1st-of-a-kind commercial scale autoclave processing facility for household waste, capacity 125,000 tonnes pa. Won £60m local authority contract in Yorkshire. Purchased 2nd and 3rd sites in London and Cardiff for national roll-out. Built team of 100 people and created large patent portfolio. Raised further £10m in a pre-IPO round. Filed for IPO.Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of Year Finalist, Cleantech award winner 2010. British Venture Capital Association "leading VC backed entrepreneur" 2009.
