Served as a member of the Manchester Digital council to represent Higher Education for the City. Participated in monthly meetings and learnt more about the issues facing smaller Manchester employers in the digital sector.

Added new functionality to ChEBI: Chemical Entities of Biological Interest, a freely available dictionary of over 50,000 chemical compounds (mostly drugs) used by scientists and engineers around the world.Developed and maintained ChEBI using Agile Methodologies, Java, Oracle, Eclipse, Maven, Bash, Apache, Linux, OWL and elbow grease etc as part of a team of seven led by Professor Christoph Steinbeck.

Investigated the creation, curation, sharing and re-use of quantitative biochemical models of metabolism using the Systems Biology Markup Language (SBML.org) at www.biomodels.net while working in the laboratory of Professor Douglas Kell.

Designed, tested, developed and maintained software applications for a range of clients including BBC Monitoring (Open-Source Intelligence), the National Health Service (NHS) and the Ford Motor Company.

Administered a database for Blackwell Science Ltd (now Wiley-Blackwell) of 150 scientific & technical journals (British Journal of Surgery etc) in SGML including software to allow import & export of data.
