The primary focus of my research is understanding how tantalum deforms at the crystalline level. I use nanoindentation to generate deformation in single crystals (to understand the affect grain orientation has on deformation) as well as near grain boundaries (to understand the role grain boundaries play in deformation). I use electron channeling contrast imaging (ECCI) and cross-correlation electron backscattered diffraction (CC-EBSD) to image, quantify, and characterize the dislocations involved in deformation process.
