At SGT, I worked with multiple U.S. public sector customers to help them realize the potential of various technologies within their environment; delivering custom demos and presentations, developing use cases, and harnessing the power of technology for the greater good.

While at Veritas, I was the primary incident responder supporting the Veritas Global Security Office (GSO) Incident Response Team (IRT). In this role, I provided analysis, guidance, and leadership for all high-severity incidents on a global scale. I also spearheaded efforts to build a world-class, enterprise-wide incident response program. This included implementing new detection capabilities, improving response times, and enhancing existing processes & procedures.

At SAIC I was the SOC Manager for the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board's Technology and Enterprise Support Services (FRTIB TESS) contract. I managed a security operations team of 8 analysts and incident responders who were responsible for the detection, analysis, and reporting of security threats and vulnerabilities within the customer’s network. Additionally, I championed efforts to deploy new detection and analysis capabilities to enhance the customer’s network security infrastructure.

As the lead for the Transportation Security Administration’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (TSA CSIRT), I provided oversight and guidance to a 20 person staff of security analysts and incident responders in a 24x7x365 environment. I served as the primary technical and procedural point of contact for the analyst staff – managing daily operations and incident response. Furthermore, I was responsible for the timely and thorough response to all IT security incidents handled by the CSIRT. I also served as a subject matter expert and primary incident handler for high impact/visibility security incidents.

In this role, I explored advanced analytical methodologies and recommended policy and procedural changes for all operations staff based on my findings. Managing a team of 8 analysts, I provided on-site technical assistance involving privileged access functions and advanced log correlation capabilities. Additionally, I trained junior personnel on security operations – including proper use of analytical tools, reporting measures, escalation procedures, and general incident handling techniques.

Functioning as the supervisor and initial escalation point for a shift comprising 3-4 analysts, I served as the primary resource for operational duties and tasks for the government customer. I was responsible for the preliminary triage and delegation of inbound security events/alerts. Monitoring ArcSight feeds, IDS/IPS alerts, and various other escalation avenues I directed the on-duty analyst staff regarding event management and incident handling.

Performing many of the watch functions of the SOC I utilized resources such as ArcSight; data feeds and logs from firewalls, routers, IDS/IPS and other network devices/hosts to monitor for security threats and determine vulnerabilities. I exercised these skills to form a more advanced understanding of network/host vulnerabilities and exploits. Additionally, I researched the corresponding hardening techniques used to react to and prevent these weaknesses. I also began exploring hacker methodologies and security incident prevention/mitigation techniques.

In this role, I performed network monitoring, security event analysis, and incident escalation for a variety of networks in 38 countries around the world. Supporting nearly 300 customers, I gathered, correlated, and evaluated large volumes of network information to detect potential threats and identify vulnerabilities. I monitored, assessed, and improved event ticketing and correlation metrics. I also aided several internal service groups in support of customer requests and upgrades, including security device management and IDS tuning.

While assigned to A Company, 17th Aviation Brigade in South Korea, I managed and maintained the flight worthiness of Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk combat helicopters. I was the personal crew chief to two United States Forces Korea (USFK) Commanders; General Leon J. LaPorte and General Burwell B. Bell III. As the Generals’ senior crew chief, I was responsible for on-ground and in-flight operational safety of two complex, multimillion-dollar UH-60 helicopters. I was recognized for superior performance in aircraft maintenance, flight operations, safety, and VIP transportation. I gained extensive experience in maintenance and repair of rotary-wing aircraft including fuel systems, avionics, hydraulics, flight controls, power plant, transmission, and utility systems. During my time in the US Army, I obtained over 1,000 flight hours on the UH-60 airframe and qualified in ship-board, sling-load, and Bambi Bucket operations.
