I am a gaming-enthusiast-turned-health professional; part time monster-slayer, full-time nurse.In person, you will find me enthusiastic, witty and a good conversationalist. I appreciate good company, open communication and have an open-minded approach to any ideas that will contribute to better outcomes for patients in my care.From a very young age, I was involved in community service work with the local churches and hospitals in my hometown in Sri Lanka helping the most vulnerable in the community. Most Sundays involved me following my father to help patients in public hospitals with ADLs; well before I understood what ADLs even meant. My parents instilled in me the skills of giving care at a very early age which eventually came in handy when completing my nursing education.I've been working in the Australian healthcare industry for the past 7 years where I have worked with numerous patients from all walks of life- a truly eye-opening experience was performing CPR during a MET call. This event changed my whole perspective on patient care, I wanted to do more for the patients I looked after- so I ventured onto completing a formal nursing qualification. Facing the challenges of a full time nursing study load while also navigating a global pandemic presented its own set of challenges but also the opportunity to further help the community in the capacity of a COVID tester and COVID vaccinator. Being a multitasker by nature, I enjoyed the challenge. Straight after graduation I worked with Torrens Health in their Emergency COVID Workforce- working with Ambulance Victoria in emergency department overflows across Victorian Public Hospitals. I have also worked with the fantastic team on the cardiac ward at Knox Private and now work across all departments at the Royal Eye and Ear. I’m truly excited to see where my career takes me.
