I am a designer and researcher who applies Design Thinking and Human Centered Design to complex problems in both the public and private sectors. Prior to moving to Minneapolis, I was part of the City of Austin's Innovation Office. I led research projects to uncover the needs and experiences of city residents, city staff, and community partners. I also brought design expertise to support the prototyping and testing of new ideas. Past projects focused on topics like Recycling in Austin and Homelessness in Austin. I started my career as a designer and researcher in the healthcare space. For five years, I was a part of Kaiser Permanente's Innovation Consultancy, an internal innovation team. I worked on a diverse portfolio ranging from Transgender Patient Experiences to Aging in the Community to Increasing Patient's Physical Activity. I've only ever lived in sunny places (California and Texas) but I recently made a transition to Minneapolis. Winters here area completely new life experience for me! I love taking on interesting hobbies and my current obsession is comedy - I took classes and performed at improv theaters all across Austin and started dabbling in stand-up in the Twin Cities!

As an i-team designer and researcher, I worked on the topic of homelessness in Austin. I led a large qualitative research endeavor where we spoke to over 120 people with lived experience of homelessness. Their stories and experiences were brought back to city leaders and community partners to humanize homelessness and inform the design of human-centered services. I led a series of workshops to brainstorm creative solutions to address pain points and opportunity areas identified during research. Those ideas are now being prototyped and tested with city staff, community partners, and people with lived experience of homelessness. -
Design, Technology, And Innovation Fellow; User Research Practice LeadCity Of Austin Sep 2016 - Aug 2017Austin, Texas AreaAs a Fellow, I led research projects to uncover the needs and experiences of city occupants and I bring design expertise to support the City in agile development of new ideas and solutions. My main project focused on increasing recycling in Austin. I led the in-depth ethnographic research to learn about residents' behaviors, motivations, and life context as it relates to recycling. Using the insights and personas from the research, we prototyped and helped to implement a series of tools and programs to increase recycling behaviors in Austin. As the User Research Practice Lead, I created toolkits and documented standards and best practices for conducting user research, I educated and advised the organization on the value of research in the design process, and I mentored and managed other user researchers and designers.
