In 1984, I made the brave decision to leave the comfort of being an employee, and went out on my own. It was pretty lean the first year. My car was 22 years old (a 1962 Chevrolet Belair) and I had my personal accommodation costs down to $200 a month. I caught a break that first year, and ended up doing very well, and I never looked back. By 1994, just ten years later, I had built a substantial practice in Drumheller, AB, which kept growing.A wise man (Don Penny, the P of MNP) told me to "delegate everything, even if it means you have nothing to do". And that is what I did. That allowed me to focus on the really interesting work that most CAs never get a chance to build any expertise on when in public practice.
