As the Director of Valparaiso University’s Innovation Hub, my goal is to bring students, faculty, community members and businesses owners from Valparaiso and throughout Northwest Indiana together to share their ideas, discoveries, and solutions and develop, cultivate, and disseminate innovative entrepreneurial solutions to address the many concerns of the region, state and country.

IKAN hosts a variety of workshops, classes, seminars and networking events centered around current entrepreneurial and business topics.IKAN was started by Dushan Nikolovski to help create a better community and more meaningful structure for budding entrepreneurs, innovators and businesses. He wanted to change the startup process because of his own startup pitfalls that could have been avoided with some simple strategies. Every year thousands of people take on the challenge of creating a new product/service and starting a new business. Unfortunately, many will fall short of the success that they are seeking, and much of it stems from a lack of startup knowledge and strategies.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is an international initiative that introduces entrepreneurship to young people in six continents. During one week each November, partners around the world hold events and competitions to celebrate and support local entrepreneurs. Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of innovators who dream big and launch startups that bring ideas to life.

The ECIER Foundation (ecier.org) was created to educate, empower and provide opportunities and skills to future young leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in majority-minority and lower-income areas, like Gary, Indiana. Empowering today’s youth, ensures the success of students in a thriving community, and developing leadership skills can impact self-esteem and help to build students’ character. As a founding member working alongside the Chairman of the Board, Chareice White, I help to provide a strategic plan for the organization, develop classes and activities for our students. Our students have received hundreds of scholarship dollars to attend universities throughout the U.S., and some are now mentors to our new group of junior and high school students.

As the Director, I have created several programs for the Center. Below are some of the more notable regional, national and international programs.• The Big Sell Entrepreneurship Competition (www.thebigsell.org) – I created the Big Sell and started the competition in 2011. It is a nationally recognized and attended competition that offers people with big dreams a platform and opportunity to put those ideas into action. Winners get to share about $120,000 in cash and prizes.• Chinese Executive Leadership Program – I created this to help high level Chinese executives and government officials attain world-class training from a world-class university.• E-Factor – I created the E-Factor Program to show regional high school and collegiate students how to begin their journey and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. It is an educational, motivational and inspiring workshop.
