As the founder and managing member of VentureEdge LLC, I deliver financing, business development and operational solutions within a strategic framework customized to emerging companies' and early-stage investors’ business needs and capital formation goals. My business leadership roles have included being an SEC-reporting, section 16 officer with experience in Fortune-500, early-stage and start-up companies in roles as CEO, leading business development, and directing non-clinical and clinical project operations and pharmaceutical product development. I have been an active member of leadership teams responsible for transformative M&A transactions and a successful NASDAQ IPO, including actively participating in raising over $100 million in investment capital over my career. As an investor, I worked in venture capital with Connecticut Innovations and as the first Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Mission Bay Capital. At UC Davis, as its first associate vice chancellor focused on innovation and technology commercialization, I led corporate engagement, IP management and startup support functions. I developed and led comprehensive, cross-disciplinary technology commercialization and regional economic engagement, instrumental in translating cutting-edge academic research into technology-enabled economic impact in the Sacramento region, which included launching a network of local and regional incubators. My academic research and teaching experience includes being on the research faculty at Yale University in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, and a visiting professor of entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. At the University of San Francisco, I have a graduate-level focus on entrepreneurship and technology management. Consistent with my belief in the global relevance of US experience in translating research into social impact, I have actively engaged in international educational engagements. In addition to private-company boards, I have provided guidance on a number of not-for-profit boards, including the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance, the California Technology Council, and the Leadership and Small Business Technology Councils of the National Small Business Association. As a member of the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity (CICEP) of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU), I served on the CICEP’s Executive Committee and its Strategic Communications sub-committee, and co-chaired its Innovation and Economic Competitiveness (IEP) Designation sub-committee.
