I am currently an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, working in the Materials Science Department. I perform investigations of nanoscale phenomena, with a focus on magnetism and spin phenomena. Previously I was a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I also completed my postdoc at NCNR working under Julie Borchers and Brian Maranville. I use X-ray and neutron scattering to perform my research and gain unique insights into materials systems.I received my PhD from the University of California at Davis in 2014. Working with Prof. Kai Liu I performed research, focusing on nanoscale magnetic phenomena and materials. My work included both fabrication (deposition and patterning), characterization (microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetometry), and modeling (simulations, exotic characterization techniques). In addition, I have worked at Seagate on advanced ultra-high density recording media and naval postgraduate school on high energy railgun systems.Specialties: Micro/Nanoscale fabrication and patterning techniques, magnetic characterization, x-ray systems, vacuum systems, microscopy techniques, High energy kinetic systems
