Providing crisis intervention, assessment, and counseling.

Providing individual, family, and couples therapy to clients and their families. Working with Case Managers in state foster care system to provide court reports, testify in court when necessary to child's mental health and progress. Responsible for documentation of progress notes, development of treatment plans, and documentation of psychosocial assessments for each client. Clinical review with insurance companies when necessary. Most clients being children in foster care system and effective counseling involved working with foster parents, natural parents when necessary, and clients to take holistic approach. Therapeutic modality includes, CBT and DBT skills building, as well as Motivation Interviewing techniques and Solutions-Focused Brief Treatment techniques. For children Trauma-Focused CBT, and Problem-Solving Skills Training techniques, as well as Behavioral Modification Plans with family. Child clients ages 4-17yo. Also, accept and treated adult clients in individual and couples setting.

Provided mental health assessments for individuals in St. Louis area and surrounding counties. Assessments included screening for safety, social support, mental status, recent changes to mood/behavior, precipitating events. Helped in connecting individuals with appropriate services including outpatient mental health (including IOP) in the area or connecting with emergency room when necessary for emergent psychiatric admissions. This on-call work that involved driving to client's at there homes or other establishments sometimes with another outreach team-member.

Provided mental health assessments regarding need for possible inpatient hospitalization for patients presenting in emergency room and medical floors. Assessing for criteria for risk to harm self or others and signs/symptoms of possible mental health disorder. Also, involved safety planning at discharge when necessary and appropriate referrals to be set up for patient. Working for Central Intake for seven different hospitals meant traveling between the facilities and being able to communicate effectively inter-departmentally with emergency room staff and physicians, psychiatrist, behavioral healthy unit staff, client's family (when appropriate), hospital administration and fellow behavioral health intake team-members.

Promoted to Lead Assessor at DePaul Health Center Emergency Room. This added leadership duties to my assessor role which include directing work flow, clarifying our process to coworkers, developing new interventions to help insure processes are being followed, leading in-service training and acting as a model for other assessors.

While working in Central Intake main office answer the phones, recording referral information facilitated direct admission of patients to SSM hospitals' psychiatric units from outside sources. Requires clarifying clinical criteria of patients in crisis or showing signs of high risk. Providing and setting up referrals to outpatient services for follow-up care for patients that do not meet criteria for inpatient behavioral health admission. Working inter-departmentally with nursing staff, emergency room physicians, unit staff, outpatient therapist and substance withdrawal units and other community resources to coordinate care. Provided pre-certification of services with patient's insurance for admission to inpatient psychiatric care. Began and chaired Central Intake committee for Outpatient Referrals. The purpose of this committee was to familiarize my department coworkers with the state of the outpatient services, psychiatric units and chemical dependency withdraw units to improve our connectivity with other departments and increase our effectiveness.

Provided support, coordination of activities, and monitoring of child and adolescent clients on psychiatric unit and residential program. This involved participating in report at beginning and end of shift, keeping record of clients' moods throughout the day, and providing progress note in PIE format. Also, building and maintaining rapport with clients and providing help with de-escalation by reminding clients of coping skills. Received training and practice in safe restraint application for when necessary.
