It was the summer of 2013 when he realized he had a choice. He could either work at an entry level position, or pursue his passion for medical sciences and helping others to make a difference in his community. Dustyn decided an exciting and rewarding career as a paramedic would be the best fit.After earning a certificate in Pre-Health sciences, and almost 2 years of hard work within the PCP program at Fanshawe College, he is one semester away from graduating. Through his education, he has gained great interest in research. This has manifested in interesting projects, such as a research paper looking at the effects of peer assisted learning sessions on first year paramedic students. When he isn't studying, Dustyn works as a para-transit driver for Voyageur. This unique opportunity has let him develop great patient communication skills outside of his formal education. He is also gaining experience as a medic by being a part of the Student Emergency Response Team at his college. In his spare time, Dustyn enjoys following his passion for Jiu-Jitsu. He has competed across North America in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, as well as teaching at a local BJJ cub, Munda Jiu-Jitsu. It's worked well in conjunction with his goal of becoming a paramedic, as both require similar qualities. They both demand a strong work ethic, self determination, and a substantial amount of time dedicated to perfecting their respective skills. Dustyn is very excited to be able to use the knowledge and skills he's acquired to help his community as a Paramedic.
