At the Office of Astronomy for Development, I lead the Astronomy for Mental Health flagship, an initiative dedicated to leveraging astronomy to promote mental health and well-being. My role involves exploring the interdisciplinary connections between psychology and astronomy, bringing mental health practices into the realm of astronomical outreach. I conduct thorough literature reviews and research, supporting both the flagship and the wider objectives of the OAD. Additionally, I provide insights from the social sciences, advising on the design and evaluation of surveys and other outreach activities. In collaboration with my colleagues, I contribute to various tasks to ensure the smooth execution of these programs.Previously, I served as a member of the National Organizing Committee for the International Astronomical Union's General Assembly 2024, playing a key role in supporting the successful coordination of this significant event.

As a manager at Syd Vertue and Son I oversee the manufacturing of aerospace and military components. I liaise between the general workers and the owner of the company. During my time at Syd Vertue and Son I implemented electronic record keeping and accounting resulting in increased cash flow and no outstanding payments. I added 3D printing and digital design capabilities while building 5 3D printers and 2 CNC machines (Router and mill).

Main duties included identifying psycho-social issues of patients and families, through screening, counseling and interviewing. I coordinated services and assisting in patients gaining access to services, preparing patients and families for discharge from the hospital and educating and enabling patients and families to manage disease specific changes. I also provided in-service training, served as liaison between social work staff and medical staff, performed research and oversaw university students completing research and practical.During my time at Kalafong Hospital I started therapeutic groups for HIV youth and for burn victims. I developed training schedules for the department and starting a library for social work staff at the hospital. I was also part of a multi-disciplinary research team that studied Type 2 diabetes over a 3 – year period.I achieved consistently high performance reviews, consistently developed new intervention groups to meet unmet patient needs and moved my department towards electronic record keeping.

During my time as advisor for DevelopSA I assisted in the growth of the organization, expansion of its social activities as well as guiding the organization towards recognition by local municipality.

As a social worker at NG Kinderhuis Kimberly I was responsible for the social well-being of the home’s children. I conducted therapeutic sessions with the children, oversaw the correct admission, leave and discharge from the children’s home. I facilitated excursions for the children, assisted in developing foreign volunteers and identifying areas of growth. I served as liaison between the child and the family and prepared the children’s files for court dates, court reviews and hearings.

I completed my practical year at the rehabilitation unit. My duties included providing psycho-social support to patients and engaging in therapeutic counseling with the patients and their families.During my time at Muelmed I started various therapeutic groups and served as a crucial part of the multi-disciplinary team.I provided same day record capturing for patient data and sent out weekly family updates of patient progress to family via email.
