Researched carbon capture and utilization, inorganic material synthesis, processing of novel lightweight composites, and microbial curing of cement and concrete. He has 5 patents pending. Co-led a $3MM/3Y (2019-2022, ARPA-e) research program for the development of a microbially cured durable carbonate concrete and a $1MM/2Y (2021-2023, ARPA-e) project for the development of proprietary low-cost technology to create a low carbon footprint concrete.

Specialized in hydrothermal synthesis of inorganic oxide powders: this included (1) custom autoclave configuration, (2) developing thermodynamic and reaction monitoring software to expedite the discovery process, and (3) engineering new chemistries that enable low energy and low cost material production. This work led to the discovery and patenting of “Hydrothermal Vapor Synthesis (HVS)”, a new low temperature and low energy inorganic material synthesis method.
