As an operations focused member of the development team, I am responsible for the design and implementation of the self-contained field system infrastructure as well as the software development infrastructure and resources. My primary responsibilities include managing Internet connected and air-gapped networks from hardware and networking through application configuration. I’m also responsible for maintaining the custom built continuous integration (CI) pipeline and help to define the software development process.

The primary role of this position is as a Lustre Storage Administrator, managing tens of petabytes of high-performance network storage. As the sole administrator of the storage systems, I'm responsible for ensuring that they provide the expected performance, availability, and functionality. This requires working with various teams in the organization and the vendor on a daily basis to verify that networking and client systems are configured and functioning correctly and that the systems continue to meet the customer’s compliance requirements.When failure occurs, it is my responsibility to identify the root cause of the failure and prevent future occurrences. This often requires analyzing source code, correlating the source code with logs and metrics, scouring public bug reports, and reporting bugs to the vendor. Once the cause has been identified, I implement preventative measures and detection techniques to reduce the risk of future impact.

As the Lead Systems Engineer, I was responsible for making decisions that impacted the systems and infrastructure, managing a small datacenter, implementing major changes, and guiding others. I worked with the team of Systems Engineers and development teams to troubleshoot issues and define the next generation of the environment, focused on supporting microservices in Docker containers. To ensure configuration consistency and continued compliance with NIST standards, I implemented CFEngine initially and later worked on migrating to SaltStack.

My role as a Systems Administrator at University of Maryland, Baltimore County allowed me to explore Linux and Open Source Software. Primarily managing the classroom workstations, I leveraged Open Source Software to create a deployment environment that could image all of the workstations in parallel, reducing workstation imaging from weeks to days. I was also responsible for deploying and managing a small HPC cluster.

While working in Information Security, I investigated IDS alerts and analyzed network traffic for malicious activity that the IDS missed. In the event something was not detected by the IDS, I would suggest new rules to the IDS team so that it would be detected in the future. To increase the efficiency and accuracy of the team, I proactively developed a web interface that allowed everyone to perform the same research without having to navigate to each tool individual.

At XM Satellite Radio, I was part of a team responsible for maintaining the broadcasting systems, from recording and editing to live broadcast and scheduled playback. Achievements in this position include migrating to an Active Directory domain, building out a new studio for live broadcast, and implementing an automated weather broadcasting system.
