After the Black Summer fires of 2019/2020, we established Mission Rainwater, a volunteer based and funded organization that supplied and installed rainwater tanks to many in the devastated regions of the Upper Murray and East Gippsland. After the initial “surge” to bring water to those without, we collectively set out to research and identify potential solutions that would significantly mitigate the impact of such fires, protecting life, property, and infrastructure.Our view was substantiated in August 2020 when the former Director-General of Emergency Management Australia Robert Cameron said, “I am of the view that the risks inherent in that supply chain – well served as we are by that particular manufacturer and importer – would be mitigated significantly were there to be onshore manufacture.”To this end we established X-Fire Australia Pty Ltd and after extensive international research identified a long-established European product that acts as a fire retardant and suppressant, with no environmental impacts as compared to comparative products. Such is the quality of the product that it is utilised in over 200 sites in Europe, including being the main suppressant and retardant system utilised at a Scandinavian nuclear reactor.We have now executed an exclusive Manufacturing and Distribution Agreement with the X-Fog owners (for Australia and New Zealand). Initially the X-Fog product will be imported, and once critical mass is achieved manufacturing will commence in Australia.We are also ware of the initiatives being commenced to work towards preventing bushfire disaster, such as the Minderoo Foundation Fire & Flood Resilience Initiative – with a stated mission to extinguish an unwanted fire within an hour – by 2025. We certainly admire and support this ambitious goal, however scientific data is clearly indicating that such disaster will be more frequent and of great ferocity in the coming years. To this end Australia needs to have better mitigation processes to be able to protect life, property, infrastructure, and Australia’s environment.In a few short months we have been able to gain market traction and have significant interest from Federal and State departments and agencies, infrastructure providers/owners, private sector operators and the Australian Defense Forces.
