I am a trade qualified Fitter and First-Class Machinist working as tradesperson for fifteen years in refining and heavy industries. An opportunity arose in 2002 for me to undertake another career path in Safety Management within the extractive and concrete industries. Initial works included conducting risk assessments and developing SOP’s in consultation with workers. Other responsibilities quickly followed with the implementation and management of certified management systems, including incident management, training, conducting site inspections and internal audits across 30 sites in three states. Additionally, this included working closely with senior management, site management and external auditors. I was then able to use these skills to work in other industries and with multiple clients.Demand from clients required me to learn new skills quickly and become knowledgeable in all aspects of safety, quality and environmental management and its implementation.My strength lie in managing legislative compliance in the workplace, including developing inductions and safe work procedures, undertaking hazard identification including effective and innovative risk controls addressing all aspects of varying workplaces. Working as a consultant required satisfying client needs with project delivery on time and within budget. Providing detailed reports and analysis, seeking mutually agreed outcomes for management, employees’, contractors and regulators alike.
