ASE is a summer bridge program specially designed for entering first year students in an engineering or science based major from all Penn State campuses. The program encourages students majoring in engineering or science to get to know the University Park campus, since most students will graduate from University Park. Experienced engineering and science University faculty will be the program instructors. ASE will also have structured social and cultural activities. The overall objective of ASE is to maximize the retention of freshmen in engineering and science majors at all Penn State campuses.PREF is a summer bridge program specially designed for entering first year students in an engineering or science based major at Penn State. Preparatory courses for first year calculus, physics, chemistry and english are offered, along with a time management and study skills course to ensure academic success. Experienced engineering and science University faculty will be the program instructors. PREF will also have structured social and cultural activities. The overall objective of PREF is to maximize the retention of freshmen in engineering and science majors at Penn State.

I am a Ph.D. Candidate at The Pennsylvania State University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Curriculum and Supervision. As a teaching practitioner and educational researcher, I am developing an understanding of how to create the conditions in educational spaces that facilitates solidarity between students and educators and how the intersection of race, gender, class, culture, and place affects this opportunity. To answer this question and facilitate conversations regarding cultural differences, I have designed an instrument that assesses individuals or groups cultural proficiency within educational contexts. Additionally, I am drafting a research proposal to pilot a professional development model that uses literacy strategies and cognitive coaching to create the conditions to facilitate solidarity between students and educators.

LEAD Across Louisiana is a 30-month program that develops and supports future school leaders; connecting them with a network of peers and like-minded education professionals. In 30-months, my rigorous training in the LEAD Across Louisiana program will have prepared me to open and/or operate a high quality charter school and or a district school in order to eliminate the achievement gap and graduate students prepared to enter and succeed in college at exceedingly high rates.PROGRAM COMPONENTS• 15-months of intensive leadership development (approximately 140 hours)• Opportunity to apply for up to $230,000 of start-up or expansion funding for a charter school located in New Orleans or Jefferson Parish• 12-months of formal mentoring and coaching provided by a distinguished education professional (approximately 4 hours per month)• Access to a lifelong network of like-minded colleagues, professionals, and support• Opportunity to become a voice and presence in the national charter school and education reform movements
