I developed a decision analysis method I call Applied Information Economics (AIE) and it has been my specialty for the last 25 years of my 35 year management consulting career specializing in the application of quantitative methods in management. I am the author of How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of Intangibles in Business (Wiley 2007, 2010, 2014) which has sold over 180,000 copies in eight languages. I also wrote The Failure of Risk Management: Why It’s Broken and How to Fix It (Wiley 2009, 2020), Pulse: The New Science of Harnessing Internet Buzz to Track Threats and Opportunities (Wiley 2011) and, with co-author Richard Seiersen, How to Measure Anything in Cybersecurity Risk (Wiley 2016).I use AIE to solve difficult forecasting, measurement and decision analysis problems in business and government. I've completed over 150 risk/return analyses of large, critical projects, investments and other management decisions and I've done enterprise implementations of the AIE method in several organizations.AIE is the practical application of several fields of quantitative analysis that have shown measurable improvements in forecasts and decisions. My experience spans insurance, banking, utilities, federal and state government, entertainment media, military logistics, pharma and manufacturing. In addition to my books, I've published articles in Nature, The American Statistician, and many other journals and magazines. I get the opportunity to speak all over the world about the methods I've developed.Specialties: - Performance metrics and measurements even for what are considered "immeasurable"- Decisions for complex and highly uncertain and risky business decisions.- Quantitative methods applied to risk management

I was the head of the Applied Information Economics practice, which I developed based on the experience in quantitative decision analysis and complicated measurement problems. Private Through Captain, Unit CommanderArmy National Guard Apr 1979 - Aug 1995Arlington, Virginia, UsI was originally enlisted as 12B Combat Engineer. I was later commissioned through ROTC and went to Airborne school I branch transferred to Field Artillery, and eventually commanded an HQ battery and a firing battery as a 1st Lt., then, as a Cpt, a Cav training unit, and another firing battery. -
Independent Consultant Specializing In Statistical Modeling And Software DevelopmentIndependent Contractor 1993 - 1994Doing the same kind of MIS/quantitative analysis/SW dev work I did at C&L and Woodmen, I worked for a variety of companies as an independent contractor. I was usually in charge of major application/database development programs related to statistical modeling and quantitative problem solving in insurance and manufacturing. When one project was done, I was on to the next contract at another firm. This was the perfect life for a single guy who liked to travel (and preferred high hourly rates over job security).

Data Analyst And Simulation DevelopmentWoodmen Accident And Life 1991 - 1993Woodmen Accident & Life was a client of my previous employer, Coopers & Lybrand. They asked C&L to let me come on board to help expand the team I was working for as a C&L consultant. Continuing my work from C&L, I was an analyst specializing in data modeling, statistical analysis, building simulations and various optimization models. We used CASE tools, DB2, Fortran, and COBOL. We worked primarily on actuarial data and analytics for insurance products and operational efficiency improvement.

Management ConsultantCoopers & Lybrand 1988 - 1991London, GbI worked on any quantitative kind of problems for clients including statistical analysis, various optimization problems and simulations in insurance, manufacturing, utilities and banking. It was a good mix of my MIS MBA, my stats/OR/MS coursework, and conventional management consulting. It was a great team lead by an Air Force Academy grad who came from Rand Corporation and saw *everything* as a mathematical problem. What a great entry into applying quantitative methods in traditional management consulting.
